A story told through six albums of peerless folk, with an eye towards historical accuracy and faithful mastering.
In those days, even if you didn’t know the singer or heard any of their songs, if it was on Vanguard, you knew it was something worthwhile, it’d be interesting. That’s been lost. A label doesn’t really stand for as much anymore. But in those days it did; there was an intellectual rigor about what they did and who they signed that made them a special company.”
This box set doesn’t end at just the six LPs that are included here. Each VMP Anthology is accompanied by extensive liner notes, and a multi-episode podcast series that not only tells the story of the label, artist or time, but also of the individual albums included in each box set. Our hope is that by slowly listening to each album and accompanying podcast, you will experience a deeper connection to the music and story.
All six albums in this VMP Anthology were mastered by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound, and pressed at GZ on high quality 180g color vinyl. All albums were lacquered from their original mono master tapes, pulled out of the Vanguard vaults.
Go deeper than just the albums by reading our 36-page liner notes booklet, which covers Vanguard’s folk years, and our podcast, which tells the story of the folk explosion.
