In celebration of March’s Essentials artist Willie Nelson’s totemic divorce album Phases and Stages, VMP presents a pair of portraits by celebrated artist/baseball fan Mike Mitchell.

Based in Los Angeles, CA, Mike Mitchell has a style that occupies unlimited expression yet maintains a strict identity, i.e. you know when Mike did it.

 

Mike has many ongoing series celebrating aspects of popular culture that exert gravity on his style. Folks particularly adore Mike’s one-of-a-kind "Bastards" series, i.e. torn profile prints much like the one offered here reassembled into new wild unimagined conjunctions with separate/different prints. 

 

Tapping the public sphere in early 2010 with the release of his "I'm With Coco" poster that supported Conan O'Brien against his wild treatment from NBC. Soon at public rallies for O’Brien, this image proliferated. In 2012 the artist debuted his popular "Fat Birds" series becoming an adorably absurdist Audubon rendering of ornithological obesity. Eventually this led to other series including his current celebrated "Portraits" series in 2013. 

 

VMP is punch-pleased to present another entry in this important artist’s celebrated career.
