The sprawling country sounds across Plains' debut album are inspired not only by Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, The Judds, The Chicks, Trio and others, but also Waxahatchee’s Katie Crutchfield and Jess Williamson's admiration for each other's music. After trading music with each other in 2020, Crutchfield embarked on a project that could become an outlet for her other creative sides, tapping Williamson to join her and emerging with I Walked With You a Ways.
The album, recorded in Durham, NC, with collaborator and producer Brad Cook, with Spencer Tweedy and Phil Cook as part of the backing band, illustrates the duo's burgeoning sounds crafted alongside each other and paints vivid images of sorrow, hope and more. Limited to 1,000 copies, the VMP exclusive edition of Plains' I Walked With You a Ways is pressed on 1LP Coke Bottle Clear vinyl at Independent Record Pressing. It will arrive in a gatefold direct-to-board, foil stamped and numbered jacket. It's mastered by Emily Lazar of The Lodge.
