After deciding to lay to rest his former Spank Rock alias, Naeem Juwan spent the last few years finding a new sound, and working with new collaborators, eventually ending up on 37d03d Records, helmed by the Dessner brothers from the National and Justin Vernon of Bon Iver. Naeem's album was made in close collaboration with folks in Vernon's upper Midwest environs, with Swamp Dogg, Velvet Negroni and Vernon himself guesting here. The album removes the artifice that bolstered the Spank Rock project, and is Naeem's strongest to date; an album as daring as it is raw.
