Description

Marcos Valle rode on the tail end of the bossa nova era, landing as an influential figure in Brazilian bossa nova. Despite his active status as a recording musician for nearly 60 years, most of Valle’s recordings have occurred in his home country. After a nearly 50-year hiatus from recording music in the U.S., Marcos Valle joins Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad (A Tribe Called Quest) on their third album in the Jazz Is Dead series.

Jazz Is Dead 003 careens in directions marked by Valle’s graceful vocals, alluring in soft tones. The album courses through a suave sound, christened with luxurious synths and guitars streaming through a wave of unburdened melodies. Valle, Younge and Shaheed Muhammad present the model for poolside jazz. The latter praised and shared, “It was really interesting how we can play the same instruments, listen to the same music and Marcos can still have his distinctly Brazilian flavor that we admire so much … and to just hear our influences mix with his and to make something brand new is a dream come true.”
