Following the success of their self-titled debut album the previous year, Kalapana set out to record another album that could act as an equally revered follow up. The band made their way to Audiotronics in West Covina, California, and recorded what would be Kalapana II. The band took full authority on the new record, producing the album while having Los Angeles-based producer Barry Fasman conduct and arrange certain tracks. With this being the second of three self-titled albums, it would ultimately become the last the original lineup recorded together.
