In honor of the label’s 70th anniversary of bringing iconic jazz releases from artists like Etta Jones, Sonny Rollins, and more, Vinyl Me, Please is partnering on four color reissues of gems from the Prestige catalog.
The partnership started earlier this summer with our reissues of Sonny Rollins’ Saxophone Colossus — which sold out — and our editions of Etta Jones’ Don’t Go To Strangers (available here) and Eric Dolphy’s Out There (available here). Today, we release the fourth and final LP in our series, Yusef Lateef’s groundbreaking 1961 LP, Eastern Sounds. You can stream the album, which blended eastern music with jazz, below:
Prestige Records was founded in 1949 and started out — much like Blue Note — as a traditional jazz label. But because it was open to recording sessions from the jazz geniuses of the day, it released seminal titles that pushed jazz in a variety of directions away from that traditional sound.
