Old Five and Dimers Like Me is also the semi-secret classic that marked the debut of a true Texas legend. In 1960s and ‘70s Nashville, there was the commercial boom brought on by the “Countrypolitan” sound, those lush strings and angel choirs. And then there was the opposition party. It arrived in a pick-up truck and denim, and Billy Joe Shaver occupied the corner office.
