Split between raucous, hilarious barn-burners and wistful ballads, Cash and the Tennessee Three crafted a set list that managed to speak to and for the prisoners of Folsom, but didn’t aim to proselytize or demean them. It’s an album that manages to humanize prisoners, while also relying on them to give the album a certain je ne sais quoi.
