Sometimes the most complicated artists are at their best when they unfold their complexities in a more traditional way. When Dirty Projectors released Swing Lo Magellan in 2012, they did just that. By highlighting their raw harmonies and singable melodies, while also stripping away the more tortured song structures of past albums, the band reinvented themselves and created a collection of songs unlike anything they had previously released.
Recorded over the better part of a year at a cabin in upstate New York, David Longstreth and crew culled the album down from nearly 70 songs and beats, the fruits of which showcasing the band at their most accessible.
