There has, as you may know, been a great deal of debate surrounding why humanity is on Earth in the first place. It turns out it’s a bit of a sore and murky subject. And we’ve also spent quite a bit of time figuring out what it means to be who or what we are along the way. We’re sort of obsessed with the whole suite of questions that come with our ability both to look up and look within. We’re captivated by them, and it turns out that in many ways, Tennyson was wrong. It is, in fact, ours both to reason why, and to do, and to die. Which is the main reason this Glass Animals album is so essential for you not just to listen to but to digest. It goes after, and captures, the really absurd thing about our lives which is that we expect them to be anything other than really absurd. That we think we’re ever going to arrive at something stronger than ourselves. That, given our spinning around on an ancient helpless rock, we’re hoping to find any sense of long term stability. And, while this album tells so many stories along the way, some of them humorous, some of them heartbreaking, every time you get to the end of it you can’t help but feel that it’s also told a little bit more of your own story as well. Because it has. It’s done what all great art does. It’s gone ahead and, unbeknownst to you, introduced you to yourself.
We hosted a show with Glass Animals alongside our friends at Tumblr IRL. It was nothing shy of amazing...
