In 2010, a producer from the Canary Islands in Spain dropped this album, which we didn't know at the time, that would help set the sound of left-of-center Spanish pop music for the past 15 years. He's El Guincho, and in the years since his album, Pop Negro, he's helped turn Rosalia into a mega star, and been a go-to for everyone from Bjork to J. Balvin. Pop Negro is like an extended party on the beach; sunshine and naps, and hanging with pals under an umbrella and dancing in high-tide. It's been out of print on vinyl since 2010, and will run you upwards of $150 on the secondary market. It's back, finally, as VMP Essentials number 146. It's been remastered by Barry Grint at AIR Mastering, and comes on exclusive 180g color vinyl with an art print.
