How To Support Artists Right Now

Connecting Over Music And Aiding Artists In The Wake Of COVID-19

On March 26, 2020

While we don’t know the full extent of how COVID-19 will affect the music industry and the people within it, we know its impacts have already been a massive blow, especially for artists whose source of income heavily relies on touring. We’re all still adjusting and coping together to this new way of life, but for the majority of us, music is making this time more valuable, more entertaining, more bearable, more rich — and for that, we have artists to thank.

So what can we, music lovers, do to support the artists who make our lives better? Luckily, there’s been a number of resources published since the outbreak; for more information, check out Rolling Stone’s list of how you can support independent artists, or Billboard’s state-by-state resource guide or Vulture’s intimate and in-depth look into how artists are reacting to and preparing for “post-Coronavirus life.

Most artists and resources agree on a couple key things that help move the needle: donate directly when you can or buy merch whenever possible.

Last week, when VMP was missing concerts and connecting through music as much as you probably are, we launched Lost Sounds Radio. Here, we’ll be working with Artists, DJs, curators from our community, and VMP Staff to kick off our first-ever public streaming series where we can all connect around and stripped-down sets, DJ sets, AMAs, storytelling, dance lessons. …You name it.

While it might feel a bit different than the concerts we’re all used to, we hope Lost Sounds Radio allows you to not only connect and form community through music, but also an opportunity to support the artists that continue to persevere, perform, and create for us through the hard times.

We’ll be keeping a running list of payment methods and ways to support the artists you see on Lost Sounds Radio below. While we understand it’s a difficult time for everyone, we hope if you’re able to give and see the value artists add to our lives, especially during tough times, and that you’re able to contribute in some way. Be sure to follow our Crowdcast so you don’t miss a set!
