The second album by Black Sabbath isn’t just a classic, it’s a rite of passage...an album that must be reckoned with regardless of whether or not it’s embraced. ‘Paranoid’ sliced itself into a Vietnam-era landscape and defined the heavy metal genre in the process. It’s impossible to grasp the full context of the album listening to it in 2015, but what is possible is to recognize the magic concocted by four young men in a London studio, likely unaware they were creating one of the greatest albums of all-time.
