While Room on Fire, the follow-up to The Strokes smash hit debut *Is This It*, was comparatively undersung, in retrospect, a listen to the album now proves the New York rock quintet as vital as ever. At the time of its release,concerns that the band had created a work too similar-sounding to their debut clouded the album’s reception, yet hindsight has revealed Room on Fire to be an album that can stand alone on its own two power-cord-laiden feet. Featuring tracks like “Reptilia” and “12:51,” time has solidified the album as one of the best rock albums — and The Strokes as one of the best rock bands — of the ’00s, and this reissue is in service of framing both as such.
